It will help you a great deal in aligning your thought process and make you understand this blog better.
In the previous blog, we looked at one of the extra services offered by TuneCore, therefore, without wasting more time, because I know you are busy people, let us go into the second additional service offered by TuneCore. This second additional service relates to;
In this new era in the music industry, cover songs are becoming a thing. Maybe you are an artist and there is a song you love that you would wish to release a cover for. Before you release the cover song, you need to first obtain a cover song license to avoid infringing on someone’s copyrights. After you have released the cover song, you will want it distributed. Now, TuneCore can do all this for you. They will not only help you in distributing your cover song, but they will also help you secure a cover song license.
As you may already know, the royalty flow if you release a cover song is very different from when you release an original song. Even when we look at the basics of it, in a cover song, the copyright owner of the original song must get a share of the royalties. Therefore, the royalty flow is a bit more complicated. But TuneCore will help you out if you choose to pay for this service. They will calculate everything for you, give the copyright owner of the original song his/her share of royalties and distribute to you, your share of the royalties as well.
TuneCore offers a two-tier service for cover song licensing, that is the;
This tier is usually used by music artists who intend to sell more than 500 downloads. This tier, therefore, will cover you indefinitely. To use this tier, you will have to pay TuneCore $59.
The second tier is known as the;
Most music artists who subscribe to this tier, usually sell not more than 500 downloads. Therefore, if think that your music won’t sell more than 500 downloads or units, you most certainly need to subscribe to this limited tier. To enjoy the limited tier service, TuneCore charges $15. The difference between this tier and the Standard tier is that this limited tier option does not cover you, as a music artist, indefinitely.
Therefore, if you intend to partner with TuneCore, I bet this offer is one you would want to consider. TuneCore usually refers to this service as one of the ‘artist services’ they offer. But basically, it is still an additional service. We will look at other ‘artist services’ later on. Let us finish off with TuneCore publishing and then look at some of the artist services. ‘Artist services’, is simply just a term used to mean the services that TuneCore offers to music artists. Just as I said, these services are, additional services, it is only that TuneCore likes to refer to some of the additional services they offer as ‘artist services.
